As a jet fighter squadron commander, Lieutenant Colonel Albert J. Amatuzio frequently observed the exceptional performance of synthetic lubricants in jet engines. These oils are exclusively used in such engines due to their remarkable ability to minimize friction and wear, operate reliably under extreme temperatures, and endure prolonged engine use without chemical degradation.
Recognizing the potential for these benefits in combustion engines, Amatuzio embarked on extensive research in the early 1960s. He soon began developing and marketing synthetic oils under various brand names. The pivotal moment arrived in 1972 when AMSOIL became the first synthetic motor oil to meet the American Petroleum Institute's service requirements. This achievement set new benchmarks for motor oil quality, consistently outperforming traditional petroleum-based oils. From its inception, this groundbreaking product was destined to revolutionize the performance standards of modern machinery and engines.
